Fish Curry Kerala Style Recipe. Kerala Style Fish Curry Recipe. Cocum Fish Curry.

For Kerala Style Fish Curry You need to get ready with below ingredients first.  Take 1-2 piece of dry Kokum/cocum and soak it for 5-7 minutes. Cocoum is readily available in any of the supermarkets.

Also get ready with chopped 1 onion, garlic, grated ginger, slit green chilies and few curry leaves.

In a small bowl take 4tbsp of kashmiri chilli powder. We are using Kashmiri chilli for this dish because in this dish chilli powder is used in large amount so if you use your normal chilli powder it would turn out to be too hot/spicy and since kashmiri chilies are not hot/spicy we can use it in large amounts. Also it brings a beautiful color to the dish.

Add 1tsp of turmeric and coriander powder into the Kashmiri chili powder.

Now mix half cup of water into the mixture to make it a smooth paste.

Mix it well to bring it to a smooth paste.

Now, in a pan/kadai with 2tsp of vegetable oil add half tsp of fenugreek or methi seeds and dried red chilies.

Once the crackling starts lower the flame.

And then add your chopped garlic and curry leaves.

Stir well till it turns golden brown.

Now add your chopped onions.

Stir till the onions get golden brown.

Now add your Kashmiri chilli paste that you had prepared earlier.

Mix it well and cover the lid and remember to keep your flame low.

Cover the lid for 5minutes.

After 5-7 minutes you'll observe the oil starts separating from the spices. And that is when you need to add your soaked Kokum/Cocum along with water you used for soaking.

Stir and cover the lid again for 2-3 minutes.

Now add water to the curry according to the consistency of the curry you need. Generally your curry must be runny but again as I said it's your choice.

Among your chopped ingredients add your slit green chilies.

Now on high-medium flame cover the lid and let the curry boil.

Clean your fish in running water. I've used Mackerel Fish/ Bangda. but you can use any sea fish of your choice.

Remove the lid and you'll see the boiling curry.

That's when you need to start adding your fish pieces.

Slowly dip all your fish pieces.

It's time to add salt. Add salt as per required.

Let it boil.

And again cover the lid and for 5-7 minutes. Till your fish gets nice and soft.

Remove the lid.

Add few more curry leaves.

You are ready with lovely, aromatic and tasty Kerala style fish curry.

Serve it with Steamed Rice.
