Tomato and Onion Curry for Rice Chapati Roti or Kulcha Recipe. Quick, Easy and Simple Main Course Recipe. Tomato Onion Vegetable Recipe.

You'll need 4-5 large and red tomatoes and 3 red onions.


Roughly chop the onions, tomatoes, 2 green chilies, 1tsp of ginger-garlic paste, few curry leaves and coriander leaves for garnishing.


Now in a pan with half tsp of vegetable oil add half tbsp of cumin seeds.


Then add half tbsp of small mustard seeds.


Also add 1tbsp of ginger-garlic paste in the pan.


Add 6-7 curry leaves.


Also add your slit green chilies.


On a medium flame stir them well.


After 2-3 minutes add half tbsp of turmeric powder.


Half tbsp of coriander powder.


Half tbsp of cumin powder.


And half tbsp of red chili powder. You can avoid this if you are not a fan of spicy food.


Stir all the ingredients well.


Also add 2 tsp of butter or ghee/clarified butter to bring in the extra taste with onions and tomatoes. Remember to keep your flame low at this point and unless the butter melts as high heat would burn your butter.


Let the butter melt. Stir.


Add your chopped onions into the pan.



Stir and add salt as per taste.



You can also add little sugar for a better taste. You can avoid adding sugar if your tomatoes are not too sour.


Mix well to combine everything together.


Add your chopped tomatoes. Don't wait for the onions to over cook before adding tomatoes, so add the tomatoes just after stirring the onions once or twice.



Mix all the ingredients well.


Cover the lid and keep your flame medium to low.


After 5 minutes you'll observe that all the juices of tomatoes has combined properly with the onions. 


Stir and stir smashing the tomatoes with onions. I mean there must not be any noticeable pieces of tomatoes to be seen.


Add half tbsp of garam masala/whole spices powder.


Once the the boiling starts add chopped coriander leaves.


And you are ready with beautiful and delicious tomato onion curry. It can go well with any sort of breads, rice or even dosas.


You can serve with rice, roti, chapati or Kulcha.
